To them, making profit is not the end of everything, it's the consequence of how much people back you. It's a little like what happens in stock market, somehow it's an investment from the audience, except that in this case, people don't expect money in return, but something else. Not specifically art, I sure don't want to tell DG what they should do, but I wish them to achieve what they'd really like to do. That's pretty much that: a wish for success and artistic achievement through money. Then, it's up to the artist to consider if money would be beneficial to his art or not... That's a tough question.
