I'm pretty much okay with Twilight getting some sort of recognition at the end of the series, as it was built up since the first episode with Twilight being Celestia's protégé. But why the wings? It just completely fucks up Lauren's message. Celestia took Twilight under her wing because she was special, even if she was just a mere mortal unicorn. This probably has a meaning Faust didn't have the time to develop, but this is mostly a mythological story. The story where the gods grew tired of ruling the planet and handed over their power to the most indicated mortals. Twilight's studies are sort of a preparation for this. But Twilight has a flaw, she pretty much lacks a sense of empathy, which is necessary to rule the world as peacefully as Celestia did. Hence the whole quest for friendship. So, what's the point in making Twilight a godly being (except for Hasbro's wallet) if the gods want to retire? It's just replacing gods by another god. That wasn't Lauren's vision and that's why she was always reluctant in adding more alicorns in the series. There there, here went my 2 cents. --- As if it wasn't blatant from the start that Twilight was destined to a bright future. Greatness is not tied to physical transformation and this message would be even more valuable if they managed to show it's possible to ascend by still being yourself. Wings were not a necessary end for Twilight. Things had to change, that's for sure. But just rewatch the last 4 minutes of the episode and notice the awkwardness of some scenes. It's not about Twilight's transformation but everything after.
